There Was A Time

In my younger days, I worked at a Navy Lab in San Diego. I ran mini-computers used to collect data and provide processing for scientific research on ocean acoustics. The above is a shot from the bridge of a typical deployment. We used rented 180' "Mud Boats", a flat deck that we loaded with communications, towed acoustic arrays and trailers loaded with computers and electronic systems. We could go to sea for 4 to 5 weeks at a shot. If longer, we would pull into a port and reload food and fuel. Discovering Da Vinci

In Milan stands an old church in the refectory of the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie, Milan where Leonardo Da Vinci painted his famous "Last Supper". While in Milan my friend helped me to obtain a ticket to visit. When you enter through a temperature/humidity controlled entrance, you find yourself in a long room. At one end is the painting of the "Last Supper" (Cameras are not allowed). Benches face the wall where the painting reaches up from the entrance to what used to be the Kitchen entrance. The opposite wall of the refectory is covered by the Crucifixion fresco by Giovanni Donato da Montorfano, to which Leonardo added figures of the Sforza family in tempera. It should be note

Between the 1400's and 1500's, an extrodinary man arose in Italy -- Leonardo da Vinci. Rumor is he was born of person brought to Italy from China by Marco Polo. His art work along with his study of the human body, mechanical designs and defense systems made him a shining star of the period. Much has been written and much more will be witten about this remarkable man. My story is a historical fiction weaving ideas both fansiful and true about this great man. It can be though of as a "What If" story or a story where a decision was made and created a new universe.
